This Privacy Policy describes how Guitar Theory Studio ("the App", "we", "us") collects, uses, and protects your information.
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your email address and a password. Your password is never stored in plain text — authentication is handled by our backend provider, Supabase, using industry-standard encryption.
Practice data. To provide the App's saved-preset and default-settings features, we store:
This data is used solely to let you return to and reuse your own saved configurations. We do not use it for any other purpose.
Feedback. If you submit a bug report or feature idea through the in-app feedback form, we store your message, your email address, and the app page you were on, so we can follow up and provide support.
Purchase and payment information. If you buy GTS Pro, payment is processed by Apple's App Store, Google Play, or — on the web — by Stripe through our billing provider, RevenueCat. We never see or store your card details. We receive confirmation of your purchase status (subscription or one-time) from RevenueCat and the stores so the App can unlock what you bought, and, for web purchases, the email address you used at checkout so we can find the purchase if you ask for a refund.
Ask questions. When you use the Ask feature, we store the question you typed, which tool the App opened in response, and technical details of how the answer was produced (whether it was served from our own pattern-matching, a cache, or a language model; how long it took; and what it cost). If you are signed in, questions are stored with your account. If you use Ask without an account, your question is stored without anything that identifies you. We use this to improve how the App understands questions, to diagnose answers that come back wrong, and to keep usage within our cost limits. Deleting your account erases the text of your questions.
Your Plan. If you build a practice plan, we store your answers to the five questionnaire questions (how you rated yourself on the Fretboard, Chords and Arpeggios, how often and how long you practise) and the goal you typed, together with the plan itself, which steps you completed and how you rated them. Your answers and your progress are sent to a language model to select and order the plan's steps from our own catalog of exercises; the model never sees your name or email. Plans require an account and are stored with it. Deleting your account erases your answers, your goal, your plans and their history.
Usage analytics. We record a small number of product events — which tool you open, when a shareable link is created or opened, and Ask activity — along with your app version, platform, and how you arrived (for example from a search engine, a social link, or a shared link). Events from signed-in users are linked to the account; events from visitors without an account are linked only to a random identifier stored on your device. This data is stored in our own database and is not sent to any third-party analytics service.
Information we do not collect. We do not collect advertising identifiers or location data, we do not use third-party advertising, analytics, or tracking services, and we do not sell or share your information. The usage data described above stays in our own database.
All account and practice data is stored in a Postgres database managed by Supabase, protected by row-level security policies that restrict every record to the account that created it — no user can access another user's data, including us, except as needed for support or legal purposes described below.

If you choose to join a guitar instructor (by opening their invite link or entering their code and confirming), that instructor can see practice information from your account for as long as you stay joined: the display name you chose when joining, which assignments you opened and completed and how you rated them, your practice minutes and top tempo in the Practice Loop, your Daily and quiz results by question type, and your streak. Your instructor cannot see your email address, your questions to Ask, your saved presets, or anything outside practice, and there is no messaging between you inside the App. You can leave an instructor at any time from your account; their access to your practice information ends immediately, and your own history stays with you. Instructors who run a studio can see which instructors and how many students are in the studio, not individual students' practice information. Lesson recaps an instructor sends you are emailed to your account's address by us on their behalf; the instructor does not receive your address.
You can permanently delete your account and all associated data at any time from within the App (the "Delete account" option in the app header). This immediately and permanently removes your account, saved presets, and settings from our systems — this action cannot be undone.

We retain your account and practice data for as long as your account exists. If you delete your account, all associated data is deleted immediately.
The App is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We'll update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
